Dementia Caregiving

Dementia can be divided into several different types of dementia, the most commonly known being Alzheimer's Disease. Caregivers of dementia patients often feel isolated from those around them, overwhelmed with the demand of caring for their loved ones, and trying to maintain their own lives as well. The caregiver's experience differs depending on the phase of their loved one's illness, the kind of dementia, and the specific person who is effected by dementia.

I am well versed in the progression of dementia and the struggles and stresses of living with/ caring for someone who has been diagnosed with the dementia. I have spent years working at the VA hospital in San Antonio in a program called "Stress Busters" which worked with caregivers in an effort to help them reduce their own stress, cope with the illness in their household, and learn to live a more healthy life. I wrote my dissertation on Spirituality and Dementia Spousal Caregivers, and I get great joy out of working with caregivers and helping them to find their voice and their lives within their responsibilities. You are welcome to look at
